Second day, search and inspiration

clip_image001Today was a great Monday; the morning surprised us with many birds singing. We left early to fill fuel and we took the mountain towards the small coffee villages to seek boy’s family that was sponsored by my friend, performing as a detective, in these cases one possibility may be to look at basic school centers, knowing in what grade study the boy we are seeking. Although children are on vacation, principals or teachers in schools often live in communities and have lists of students per year.

Usually, a sponsorship for a child in a Hispanic country could be $ 60 per month, not much but when you’re in the mountains and see the adobe homes, bahareque (Spanish meaning: a technic in building houses) and wood you realize that this can be much. Doing a search requires more than Google Earth, it can be useful data charts, pictures and important details. A sponsor may not have much passion for travel to a poor country to see the family of a boy, but apart from the emotional that can be Google Earth, knowing that his father has died not long ago can be important. As any Anglo-American who was never in a Latin country, you may think:

I’m going to the airport rent a car, take the path to the town, and find the boy’s family

Therefore, the fact of not having the community where the child lives has can be a major difficulty, as if you only know the municipality, this can easily be 25 villages and some 85 country houses in the mountains. Additionally, my friend from clip_image002viewing how my fellows lead he has thanked heaven I am his pilot, there is not much road education in these areas.

My friend has enjoyed his trip, he were bewitched by the mountains, food, people, he has suffered the terrible heat of Easter, but especially he has gotten surprised that with US $ 22 6 people can take breakfast in the restaurant of the hotel. In the Colorado Mountains, where people of his city take their vacation, $ 22 is not sufficient for one’s person breakfast.

The above photo, my friend with all and his belly is taking a photo at the old way, with his eye glued to the viewfinder. Below the view from that height of the community from where we started … that is very high.

In the first community we found a 14 year old boy that his father allowed to accompany us along the way, this is unusual in other countries but here is possible. My mother came with us to create greater trust and then we asked the boy’s father if he is confident for taking him, he said:

Go, take it, I know that you are trying to help…

The boy who accompanied us has led several earnings at the end of the tour:

  • His father lives in the U.S., and does not work, My friend lives near the city he lives and has given the number of his company to help if possible.
  • We have shown him Google Earth halfway to guide us where were the communities mentioned by the principals. The boy had never accessed the Internet, but is very good in Social Studies and understood well by applying his geography class, as we approach and view the detail of high-resolution image he become astonished (Spanish Idiom: “con la boca abierta”), and like that old disk of Poison said Ahhh!. As anyone looking at Yahoo Answers he asked if it was possible to see in real time … and I think he understood better than thousands who still believe otherwise.
  • He also won $ 25 at the end of the journey with which he will surely buy a mobile phone and it will look in front of friends who would not join us.

Look this magnificent path, on there only bullock carts passes, just the passion of a good heart’s man to find a poor child, and my audacity to believe that my truck will pass were sufficient.

We started at 9 am and ended at 3 pm. With all and the good scenery, very friendly people, my truck that is a donkey, the final disappointment at the end of the day in the three basic centers was great.

… the boy is not there.

We’ve got some other tracks that we got in the communities; we’ll see tomorrow what happens.
