Be Inspired 2009 winners

clip_image001This is the first release in the Be Inspired format, of what once were the Bentley Empowered (BE Awards). From thematic axes they have become to best practices, focusing more on the relevance of the process itself. Bentley has already issued the formal list of winners; I will put my efforts in nothing more than the chronicle.

The ceremony was held at the Westin Charlotte, with less concurrency than other years after the format change and economic crisis. Nevertheless it wasn’t less shining, though it’s noticeable a change at label’s level, remember that before it was called gala, and presenters wore a bow tie, now it has been more casual, so this has made the engineers to look better.

The award

Chris Barron was great as the host of the show; he started singing a parody entitled Bentley Infrastructures Inspired, very well; accompanied by a funny PowerPoint outlining the innovative history of men at the creation of infrastructures, always in the nominated areas.

There were different breaks, including one from the mayor of Charlotte and others from Bentley executives concerning the professional’s sustainability, society, environment and innovation for which were given some recognition. Just before delivering the first prize, Chris told a joke about the difference between baseball and football, alluding to (Spanish Idiom: “drapear”, alluding in comparison) the clip_image002existing ingratitude by which many technicians work extremely hard (Spanish Idiom: “fajar”, work without any rest) on a project, with overtime, sleepless nights and headaches for their executive who takes the applause with a prize that costs $ 300. The core of the show, presented the manufacturing process of the new award, in its basic 3D design, twist, bite, refining output in a 3D printer, till the crushing process in the metallurgical shop.

clip_image003The scenario

Finally, it closed with the importance that software can give to the business model in which many wins, then it showed the half-profile award model assimilating an “8” and next it appeared, always in green glass smoked, a letter V and an a letter i with a slogan: It would not have been possible without V8i.

clip_image004Although media members had a reserved zone, I sat at the table with the City Council Cáceres guys who came to finalists, accompanied by a Bentley Spain account executive and, in the same table, two MicroStation legends: one of them the promoter of The MicroStation Comunity (TMC) now becoming quite dull is with the Be Communities Web 2.0 retouching.

While congratulating the guys from Cáceres, my will would like to celebrate it with them as that time, but in Cadastre subject, the Honduras project (Awarded in 2004 and 2005) and the one from El Salvador, twice nominated were for the jury point of comparison which dull almost any effort; to overcome it will be necessary to prove this with Bentley Cadastre, Geospatial Server and Project Wise egeomated in I-model.

Completed the award, a music group played on the scenario as typical American style (Spanish idiom: “gringolandia”: a colloquial way of saying USA), while the rest quickly devour with delight the succulent sandwiches and the best of what this place produces. I had a time to talk with Alfredo Castejón, from Mexico and one of the executives whom I interviewed last year. They wished me luck with the Honduras crisis and with the next day roulette in the semi-finals of the world cup where El Salvador, Costa Rica and the United States are wrapped.

clip_image005Then I went to bed, I dreamed that Zelaya and Micheletti agreed in placing Reinaldo Rueda as interim president and woke up with the nightmare that they were giving this position to him as a consolation prize. After a while I realized it was a good sign for Honduras to classify for the world cup and that finally this insanity would reach the end very soon.
