PC Magazine, moving to the digital version

It has been long time the English version of this magazine had made his retirement, and although announced it in the Spanish version, supermarkets sideboards continued showing copies. Finally, after a couple of months of asking I have come to accept that Televisa finally had stopped production in printed format and I feel that in digital we will only see Jambitz for a time.

So it was no choice for me than to get the iPad, download Zinio free version and look there for the magazine. It’s funny, but I can not find the Spanish version, perhaps may be there but store’s search process is somewhat slow so I ended up accepting English version subscription.

Advantages

Well in price, I paid about US $5 per copy, within 12 months nearly spending $60. The digital subscription is barely worth US $18 the year, with the option to purchase via Paypal. So in matters of money, just I have had paid 30 per cent.

Another advantage is the hyperlinks within the content to hardware websites and software review. With one click you can go to the site while preserving the option to return the page because navigation is not out to Safari but lift a Zinio internal browser.

It is a rest for the eyes makes zoom as we like in order to read without squinting.

The option of collecting is now much easier, as the copies stack I had been keeping since 95 were already causing a bad mood in my home.

For reasons of distance, Zif Davis produced the copy and in the United States was the same week of release. But it came to Latin America three weeks later and the Spanish version is expected until the completion of the latest TVyNovelas gossip and other that local dealer carries forward from Mexico, to the extent that when were read many topics were outdated or were known by Internet.

Disadvantages

Therefore, experience is not the same. There is always that emptiness that leads not have the copy in hand, scratching with conventional pencil; these are romances I guess will die eventually.

It’s tempting to be in Zinio showcase, with magazines such as National Geographic, Popular Mechanics and PC World that sooner or later can move me to purchase a subscription.

It’s a pity, because my children will not have where to cut for their crafts. Although for me it is an advantage because the precious collection ended up as Helvetia cheese after their multiple albums; first, my son that instead of cutting start pulling almost with his teeth, then my daughter that with fine scissors or stylus damaged more than one sheet and finally the nanny who is also attending high school with the excuse that it is cheaper that color prints.

Such is life changing, never ceases to amaze me how these models are changing so dramatically. Recently I’ve missed the personal Hispanic accent, as the opinions (very good, by the way) from Dvorak, Costa and others were almost literal translations, after Nadia Molina left and then Carlos Mendoza left, there were little remained of human touch that conveys an editorial on third page last editor removed.

On its side this month issue brings as its main theme 50 essential applications review for iPad in categories of work, games, social networking, business, communications, entertainment, news and creativity.

What I see, magazine will eventually have to revise its name, because every day dives more into Apple’s products revision. On this occasion there is a great article that presents all aspects that should be considered for migrating from PC to Mac.

It also draws attention HP Pavilion dm1z review, a netbook that leaves little to be desired. I recommend keeping an eye on it.
