What brings back GEO5 in its version 15?

A few years ago I did a review of this software, which I think is the best for soil mechanics. This week has left us quite concerned the release of the GEO5 new version, which we believe will have an acceptance by users of this tool, which incidentally excels in the geo-engineering field without strong competition, at least in the Hispanic context thanks to the support that promotes Fine Latinamerica from Argentina.

Geo5

The most important changes in version 15 focus on the “group piles” novelty, although also draws attention some innovations and improvements to the entire line especially in the data input which makes the scan settings somewhat comfortable.

Let’s see what this means:

Group of Piles

The program performs an analysis of piles group (rigid base plate) using the Spring Method (MEF) and analytical solutions. The program assumes a rectangular grid of vertical piles under loads acting on the upper surface of the plate, whereas stratification in horizontal layers, and including both floating piles as fixed.

At analytical information generation level can be obtained:

· Analysis of Vertical bearing capacity of the pile group in cohesive soils as a rigid block.

· Analysis of piles in non-cohesive soils (NAVFAC, effective stress, CSN).

· Reduction of the bearing capacity of a pile group (EI 02C097, La Barre, Seiler-Keeney).

· Seats analysis of a piles group in cohesive soil as a fictitious foundation.

· Seats analysis of group piles in non-cohesive soil according Poulos, load-settlement curve.

Geo5

And via the Spring Method (FEM) analysis of a three-dimensional action on a group of piles can be obtained as:

· Rotation and Translation analysis of a cap pile.

· Allows any number of load cases.

· Connection Analysis between the rigid plate and the piles: fixed or articulated.

· Analysis of floating and fixed piles within a mass rock.

· Post-automatic calculation of springs along the pile from the soil properties.

· Possibility to enter normal springs (to the pile axis) and verticals, along the pile length.

· Analysis of the internal forces and deformations distribution along the pile.

· Dimensioning of pile reinforcement, according to EN 1992 (EC2), BS, PN, IS, AS, ACI, GB, CSN, SNIP.

New entry system and configuration analysis management

We are happy to introduce a significant change, which makes your work with GEO5 programs much easier.

These are the benefits:

· Settings’ analysis is unified through all GEO5 programs.

· With one click you can completely change between different configurations as safety factor or LRFD and National Annexes Eurocodes (Slovakia, Poland, Germany, Austria…).

· 35 pre-defined settings for several countries.

· Possibility to create settings defined by the user for specific analysis.

· Ability to transfer user-defined settings among multiple users.

Other modifications and improvements

Stability of slopes

· Automatic analysis of both combinations in the verification case as: IN 1997, DA1

· Improved optimization of circular and polygonal sliding surface

· All Programs

· Limit states and safety factor contain defined design situations.

· Reinforced Soil Wall Program

· Ability to assign different soils to a reinforced region

· Seating

· Ability to enter off-axis analysis concentrated loads

· Micropile

· Choice of standards for micropiles sizing

· Ground Pressure, Walls

· Introduction of the partial in resistance factor of the Earth according to DA2
