Blogsy is a wonderful tool, so far the best writing from an iPad. As a demonstration, I intend to update this article right now that the awards are being handed out. I would have liked to follow live visitors with Woopra, but its script is so heavy that it has crashed the site a few times, which has forced me to try Zopim. While in America it is noon, night within the enclosure is warm, with chandeliers that after a while have the smoky atmosphere in a romance that is perceived by gently rotating multicolored lights. After a cold white wine they served us a strange greenish soup that must be bean soup Viking version with boiled egg inside … and when you put margarine … Delicious!
Everyone is on their table, bidding on their project. Representing America only the Brazilians in a corner, although it has been great to see more Hispanic friends coming and which have been grouped into a single table, three girls from a couple of Mexican magazines stuck to the oil / energy theme, a girl from an urban theme Spanish magazine, a boy from an Italian publishing in infrastructure area and a Brazilian also in infrastructure area. So, more or less fit to an average Spanish.
I’ve preferred to stay with the friends of Azersu, I say the name of the company because I don’t memorize the country. Sorry, these did not exist in my school years… The Soviet Union, as name, facilitated us everything. I have consulted at the end of the article, it is Azerbaijan. And I swear I’ve come to this table because I want to enjoy the raison d ‘ être of the Be Inspired, I want to capture the ambiance completely without discomfort, and it happens that at this table guys cross their fingers so much that only two of them, who speak a so-so English, don’t dare to lose moment… nor I.
A total of 57 projects from 29 countries in 20 categories, finalists for the award which for the third time is celebrated in Holland and according to my predictions could be in Asia next year. Note that, it is the third continent which proposes finalists this time, so it’s understandable that in Europe three events are sufficient and return to the U.S…. I do not think it will be, with Obama threatening investments.
Greg has passed from table to table shaking hands and wishing luck to the participants. Nice gesture, very warm. Then have passed a dish that has a piece of steak on something spongy, something sweet … it brings me back memories of distant lands, with hair on the face and the sky’s branch that only you can have in our own land.
Suddenly comes the feeling of being here by personal commitment, for holidays, for privilege. While UTM area is cut in negative, strike has left half Madrid without transport, fact which differs little from politicians archaic customs across the pond that have little notion of what it means to be democratic left. But hey, be here after several years represents relive man’s reason: Being inspired by their potential and take it as their own despite having done so for work and by the way have been paid for it. Inspiration is what we are, ordinary people, forgetting titles and accumulated knowledge, bidding for pride on our own efforts.
Now a dish with strange meat, probably one of them is lamb, and another could be dinosaur, total I would really like to eat it because it’s delicious … and starts to play the background music, as with a desire to start the “Bentley Infrastructures song”. But no, not yet, it’s just a song with project demonstrations, while the colored lights start spinning and occasionally go through the tables giving us blues and purples tones.
It’s the time now… Greg enter telling a joke at the American style… appreciates the everyone’s presence with a short reflection of why Bentley’s priority in infrastructures… in his hand a glass of wine white, ready to call the toast.
And then call Chris Barron, and this part of the show I already know how it is… Haha. An old song that every year gives the humorous touch to the event, with the irony of personalities and technologies that, one who has not read a lot, loses flavor. It seems to me that this year has a good update, with best and most professional background animations.
Then again Greg, and presents the awards to the sustainability of our society and our environment. These were given to an Australian project and another one of Denver… the background history is quite emotional and reminds us that we must leave something of positive footprint.
The prize medal was again that of years 2004, 2005 which reminded me again what the feeling is to have one of that in hand, on behalf of a country where we were not born but learnt to love so much, nearly as much when it wins the tie to Mexico, either suffered, and in the Azteca.
Then prizes are awarded to the sustainability of the professions, educator of the year and return to innovation: They are going to China, Austria and the United States respectively. The award for advanced mobile information management stays in Virginia, controlled management to the Netherlands and developer of the year in Japan with an amazing work of assembling objects step by step as Tetris style… scary!
Next are the list of projects, I will update them as the awards goes on, in red color are those which in my opinion would win, but I used the more attractive image. I admit that after seeing the projects’ defense exhibitions I wanted to change my bet … but leave it to validate two of my questions:
- How is it possible that my predictions are fulfilled?
- How much influence a project’s good presentation with well worked and representative images of the category in which they compete.
I’ll mark in bold the winners.
This stage returns suspense in participants that scream every time mentioned. Although repetitive the we won or we lost, it is real in each group, especially the first ones here, 7 dreamers who have broken their head on a project that starts getting out guts to the dgn, to store in a PostGreSQL base and publish it in MapGuide OpenSource. They discuss among them in their strange language that seems to be taken from an Obelix’s episode, some seem to come to this country for the first time and I could swear that with the surplus of their travel expenses they have spent a joint in a coffee-shop or 40 Euros at a red light. If not, even a single 2 + 20 Euros next to the Museum that summarizes the historical thought of the human being.

The guys at my table are left in abeyance, crossing up including the knuckles of their feet, and when mentioned winners are become standing, scream and hug each other. And they begin to wonder who will go to the front to collect the prize… Search for cameras and they embrace again, hiding a knot that weighs in the throat and moisten eyes with desire to get wet oneself.
Ahhh, this is Be Inspired! Then some pass to the front and one that seems to be the most connected calls in his language to notify his home, with a Joker smile and half tear in stampede by the left cheekbone, which reaches the lure of nose, stops and makes baton again in the company of half mucus…
Be Inspired! Be human!
It’s just what happens at each table where there is a winner.
Finally the event closes and I hasten to finish the article because although exercise has been interesting, I must go to celebrate because tomorrow… I must dawn in Madrid.
And then, my two conclusions:
§ On the selection of project’s representing images: Nothing to do, the image is good but the defense is everything. The jury has done a great job.
§ Regarding my forecast skill: I hit 8, 12 no. What suggest me a 40% of Autority. So when you read my technical writing, believe me 100%, and when making predictions … believe me less than half.
By the way, if you read this article because is thinking to compete or you’re competing in a similar ceremony… Call me for a couple of tips.
