Geoinformatics, Edition 7 … GIS and much for Hispanics

clip_image001

It’s now available the eighth edition of the Geoinformatics journal, which GIS approach shines to a simply “spectacular” egeomate level, although it strikes us that this time there is more than one item with an approach based on the Spanish-speaking countries experiences.

1. GvSIG.

One of these articles with a Hispanic focus is about the gvSIG project, we believe it’s a good visibility achievement from an initiative that costs people’s tax and if it continues at an accelerated rate, could become an excellent tool for free use.

Of course that if no further accelerates its development, could continue being under criticism by the “hack ArcGIS experts” which in many cases clip_image002are right but often miss the point of view because the government initiative applications often appear to be slow … or because they dislike to open source

2. México…

Another thing that pleased us is Scanning Naica caves, in Mexico. An interesting article of laser scanning extreme conditions…

clip_image004It shows not only the methodology but some conclusions while work is not yet finished. In good time for our Mexican friends, the cover photo is from this article, shows how you should go dressed as an astronaut to make this type of catches and it has nothing to do with our friend from the nude beaches, he he.

3. Web 2.0 mapping…

What’s the heck with our understanding of web 2.0….  Well, this is not the literal translation but it is an article that tries to smoke on Internet trends known as 2.0 generation.

In the Jan Koops Lambert’s pen it plays the theme of Web applications with mapping toys and GIS online. Interestingly, the smoke mentions products such as smoked MapGuide (AutoDesk) and ProjectWise (Bentley), making a relationship even simplistic, clear as these evolution examples of the art technologies evolution to share ideas for improving the collective intelligence.

The focus is web applications in four levels, from scratch of course:

  • Level 0.  These are applications that work both online and offline.
  • Level 1.  These are the applications that work both online and offline but are more functional and robust when working online.
  • Level 2.  In this case, it is supposed these applications operate on and offline, but its offline usage is almost impossible, as is the case of Google Earth.
  • Level 3.  This is the case of applications that only operate online, as is the case of Wikipedia.

Apart from this, which I think is a classic there is another article called “Where the GIS and the virtual world meet each other …” interesting on virtual reality applied to GIS … but not everything can be believed as practical.

clip_image0054. GeoBIM

Fritz Zobl and Robert Marschallinger shine talking about the Geo BIM look, this time touching the approach of surveying and civil engineering works.

Also in this aspect of spatial modeling there is an article that shows an integration of remote sensing with GIS, through a spatial model of phosphorus emissions…

5. Innovations in equipment

clip_image006A new Jena’s generation. In this paper, they present some new Earth observation instruments.

Following the revision of topographic equipment Sixth Edition, in this case there is a review of the Leica robotic total station TPS 1200 +

The new toys brought by Magellan… it would have to be seen this, because Magellan with its constant sales nobody knows who gives support and still inventing.

6. There’s more…

Rather, I recommend you read online or download as a pdf for your collection, only 12 MB and low weight fast.
